Listening to music online has never been this easy. As recently as five or six years ago, low bit rate streaming services were free, but the higher quality streams required some form of subscription or software purchase. Not anymore. Here are some benefits to listening online:

1. Cost – The biggest advantage of listening to music online is that it’s free. Free music has never been this widespread and at such high levels of quality compared to initial offerings. And in a lot of cases the music is broadcast with very few ads, thanks to the lower overheads of an online radio station.
2. Variety – Unlike local radio stations, which mostly cater to local music tastes, Internet radio has hundreds if not thousands of stations and genres to choose from. If you prefer 70’s Jazz, there is a station for that. Almost any genre or sub-genre you can think of is available.
3. Quality – Broadband and Wireless speeds have increased to the point that high quality high bitrate audio can be streamed directly to the consumer.  This borders on CD quality audio and far exceeds the quality of a conventional radio station.
4. Convenience – You can now listen to online radio on almost any device now. You can listen at home on your computer or stream directly to your phone wherever you are. Buffering on the phone takes care of points when your connection drops or if you’re in the subway.
